The TNG team in Middlesbrough have been actively sourcing local work experience placements to give customers the opportunity to work in their chosen industry, adding valuable work experience to their CV which in turn boosts their confidence and helps them find a job.

One individual who has undertaken a work placement sourced by the team in Middlesbrough is Kirsty, 23, from Stokesley. Kirsty joined TNG in June 2010 and was keen to gain experience in a retail role. TNG had recently sourced work placements with a local Hospice so a placement was arranged for Kirsty to take on a role in the Hospice shop. She enjoyed the role and impressed her supervisors so much that she has since been asked to take on the role of Assistant Manager. This is still on a voluntary basis, but shows Kirsty's enthusiasm for her placement. On the days when she is not working at the Hospice, Kirsty continues to visit TNG and is dedicated to searching for a paid job, boosted by the confidence and experience she has gained during her work placement.

Another individual who has benefitted from a work placement is Caroline, 24, from Middlesbrough. Caroline joined TNG in May 2010 and was initially very shy in a group situation. She was also low in confidence having been out of work for a while so extra support was given to Caroline during on-to-one sessions which helped build her confidence. Caroline undertook a placement at a local charity shop which gave her valuable experience and made her realise her potential. With her new found confidence, Caroline was inspired to apply for a cleaning job at the local council. TNG supported her with her application and she was successful in gaining the role. She starts her new post in September and attributes her success to her improved confidence and the experience she gained during her work placement.
