Barry, 37 was unemployed for over 12 month after he was made redundant from his previous job as a qualified welder. He attempted to find work in the field of his expertise but didn’t have much success and this began to affect his confidence immensely.
As a result he eventually ended up on medication for depression.
Having being referred from JCP, he joined TNG in April 2010 on the FND programme. After a few sessions with his adviser Barry was open to going back in the area of construction because he had already acquired a CSCS card which would allow him to continue working in this trade. However, at this time there were no welding opportunities and with the support of his adviser. Barry made a decision to explore other avenues and was happy to take on any manual work because he was keen to find work and be in a position to pay his bills.
After spending some time with Barry and getting him more involved in workshops. He was then referred to the Employer Relationship Manager within TNG who was also able to help and provide additional support whilst he was looking for work in all areas.
Within 3 months, Barry was able to secure a week’s trial with a company called Clearfield as a site operative and this role involved general cleaning. He passed his trial successfully and was offered a more senior position that was a permanent full-time role as an industrial cleaning operative. Since he started work, his employer has been delighted with Barry’s work ethic and quality of his skills ever since. Barry is happy with the career change and thoroughly enjoys his new job which is not in his previous area of work experience.
