Shaynetelle, 22, had been looking for a job for over a year prior to coming to TNG on the programme. She has only ever worked in nurseries, her last role being a nursery assistant.
Apart from major health issues, Shaynetelle was suffering from lack of self-belief and focus when she joined the TNG FTET programme. TNG staff has helped her move forward by showing faith in her, which in turn had given her the confidence and motivation to want to improve her lifestyle choices. She was shown easier ways to obtain a job and encouraged to take part in additional courses offered within the programme.
Doing the First Aid Course and gaining the qualification had given Shaynetelle a more positive attitude to trying new things. This made her more open to looking for jobs in a range of sectors, including retail – which she didn’t consider going into before. She was found a sales assistant work placement by Debra, her placement officer, with a large national retailer. The placement has helped her broaden her skills and experience in the retail sector. Sheytenelle feels that she has had amazing achievement at her placement company. She has been given additional responsibilities from what was originally agreed. She has also received positive feedback from colleagues and customers she has assisted which gave her self-confidence a boost. She is currently still with this placement and is hoping to gain full time employment there.
