Katie, 20, from Wallasey in Merseyside, had worked in retail, particularly customer services, at a filling station and later as a part time domestic cleaner prior to joining TNG. She particularly enjoyed working with customers so was keen to get back into a retail environment when she joined in October 2009.

Katie was motivated and determined to gain experience and get back into work and took advantage of all the resources available to her at TNG. She spent time using jobsearch resources that she may not have otherwise had access to, such as endless papers and computers, as well as gaining valuable advice and guidance from her TNG Placement Officer, John. She created a cover letter which enabled her to display her skills and experience concisely to a future employer, and was successful in gaining a temporary Christmas position at Bench in Liverpool, which gave her further exposure and experience in a retail environment.

Katie’s temporary position has since come to an end but she remains positive about finding another job in the near future and, armed with the skills and knowledge she acquired at TNG, she is already lining up a position working at an off-license close to her home.
