What are the benefits of a PLA?

  • Individuals will be awarded an NVQ Level 2, which is recognised nationally by employers, colleges and universities as both a professional career route and evidence of prior learning.
  • Get the opportunity to gain a range of essential skills, including communication and team work which will be useful in the future.
  • Gain work experience in a chosen industry while gaining recognised qualifications.
  • PLA’s can be a stepping stone to further and higher education, and are a learning curve for a future career.

Who is eligible?

PLA's are open to anyone aged 16 or over, in employment and earning a minimum of £95 per week. You must also live in England and not be taking part in full-time education.

How does a PLA work?

Studies will begin at TNG where it will take 12 weeks to cover a vocationally related qualification, Key/Functional Skills in Application of Number and Communication and employability skills including CV writing, interview skills and working with others.

Support will then be on hand to find a work placement, where individuals will be required to work for 16 hours per week. This will provide the opportunity to transfer the knowledge and skills that have been gained from the classroom into the workplace.

What support is available at TNG?

TNG staff will be on hand to offer advice, guidance and tips at all times. Individuals will receive regular one to one reviews to ensure they are happy and receiving the support needed from both TNG and the employer.

Our highly qualified team of assessors will work with individuals every step of the way and will provide a range of resources to enable them to achieve a PLA. With our help and support, individuals will be able to start an Apprenticeship at a time that suits both them and the employer.
