NVQs Explained

What is an NVQ?

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are work-related, competence based qualifications. They are sector specific, set by the industry themselves, and reflect the skills and knowledge required to do a job effectively. They are work based qualifications and as a result focus on practical performance as well as knowledge and understanding.

What are the advantages of doing an NVQ?

NVQs enable businesses to move ahead as staff will be more productive and gain the confidence to take on new roles and responsibilities. Staff motivation will be improved, which in turn will minimise staff turnover. In addition, they give employers the opportunity to develop an efficient multi-skilled workforce.

How are NVQs assessed?

NVQs consist of a mixture of training and assessment. Training can be conducted either in the workplace or at a TNG centre, at a time and day of your choice, depending on your specific needs.

Assessment is conducted in the workplace through observations by our assessors who will visit candidates at a time of their choice. From the training sessions and assessment, candidates then produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that they have the competence to meet the NVQ standards.

Although we have been working with TNG for a short time, we have noticed and benefited from increased morale amongst our staff. They are keen to gain a recognized qualification and are excited by the opportunity of personnel development this training has given them.
