TNG in Tees Valley is celebrating having helped over 200 people from benefits into employment in the last six months.

TNG is one of the UK’s leading welfare to work training providers, with five offices in Tees Valley, including one in Shelton Court, Thorntree. One person helped by TNG is Jay Reilly, 24, a lone parent from Middlesbrough.

Jay had been unemployed for eight years while looking after her two young children. Jay had been out of work since she was 16, and felt that her lack of relevant qualifications was a barrier to employment. She also wanted help to improve her CV.

Jay enrolled with TNG, and received help with CV creation, cover and speculative letters. Jay also received advice on interview techniques, self assessment and job planning.

Jay was keen to gain vocational qualifications, and TNG provided funding for her to gain Phlebotomy Level 2 and Clinical Skills Level 3. Additionally, Jay has also gained IT qualifications ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) and CDL (Certificate in Digital Literacy).

Now that Jay has improved her employability by gaining relevant qualifications, and working on her CV and interview techniques, she is looking for employment at a hospital or surgery.

Jay said, “Before I enrolled with TNG, I had been a full time mum for six years. Although I enjoyed spending time with my children, I felt that I needed some independence and wanted to meet some new people. Before TNG’s help, I felt that I was wasting my time even applying for jobs, but now I feel like I have lots to offer an employer. I am really looking forward to putting all my new skills to good use.”
