TNG Peterborough forsake their Secret Santa to support local Homeless Charity
Thursday, 06 January 2011 15:32

This year the staff at TNG’s Peterborough office decided to donate their £180 Secret Santa fund to a charity close to their hearts - Peterborough Streets.

Founded in 1991 Peterborough Streets, formerly known as St Theresa’s, caters for the needs of the homeless, the poor and the socially excluded adults in the City of Peterborough.

Staff at TNG, a national welfare to work training provider in City Road, Peterborough, work with a number of clients who are or have been homeless at some stage in their life, and rely on Peterborough Streets for support.  The office which is 18 people strong, decided to donate £10 each to Peterborough Streets rather than buying each other a Secret Santa gift.

The cheque for £180 was presented to the Doug Styles, Centre Manager of Peterborough Streets on Thursday 23rd December.
Commenting on the donation, Una Davies, Business Manager said:

"It’s terrible to be homeless, anytime of the time of the year. The reality is, that for some Christmas isn’t a time for presents and family get togethers but just another day on the street, hence our decision to donate the money from our Secret Santa to a local Peterborough charity which supports the homeless.  We’re delighted to donate a total of £180 to Peterborough Streets which supports some of our customers at TNG Peterborough."

Doug Styles, Centre Manager of Peterborough Streets added: "Thank you so much to all the staff at TNG’s Peterborough office for their generous gesture of giving up their office Christmas gifts for the benefit of the homeless in Peterborough.  Our centre provides the homeless with a safe and secure environment where they can access a number of services including:  low priced hot food, clothing, laundry services, counselling and health related activities to name a few.  The funds go along way to helping the homeless in Peterborough this Christmas."
