Rochdale man helped into work by TNG’s Work Skills Unit.
TNG, one of the UK’s leading Welfare to Work providers, has created the Work Skills Unit where people out of work can practice, develop and maintain building and gardening skills alongside others and with the support of TNG tutors.
One person who benefited from the Work Skills Unit is Adam Kinsley, 21, from Rochdale. Adam had been searching for work for months, when he first enrolled with TNG and worked with his tutor, Kath Tong, to focus on his jobsearch.
As Kath gained Adam’s trust, he confided that he cared for his mum, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, a debilitating disease which affects her nervous system and muscles. This had a significant impact on his search for employment, as he needed flexibility.
With support from Kath, Adam began a focused jobsearch and started applying for jobs. As Adam had been out of work for a while, it was decided a placement at the Work Skills Unit would help him to get into a work routine in preparation for employment, as well as learning new skills.
Adam said, “The Work Skills Unit really helped me to put into practice what I had learned from my tutors at TNG. It helped me build my confidence, and I really enjoyed being part of a team. I’m enjoying my new job, and the flexible hours mean I can work around my family commitments, and TNG’s help made it possible.”
Adam’s confidence grew, and while with TNG, he was offered a position with Royal Mail. The best thing for Adam is that the hours are flexible, so he can continue caring for his mum.
Len Johnson, TNG Regional Manager said, “The Works Skills Unit provides much more than practical skills. Adam found he really enjoyed plastering, but he also learned what it was like to be part of a team. His bubbly personality and enthusiasm was infectious. He also achieved a Health and Safety certificate, and learned to be proud of his achievements.” |
