Martin, 38 was made redundant from his previous role as a productive operative. He was unemployed for approximately 2 years claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA).
Martin did not have much luck finding a job and felt knocked back when he was referred to TNG on the FND programme. His self esteem was extremely low but over time after several discussions with his TNG adviser his enthusiasm increased and he managed to successfully complete a Health & Safety course as well as an IT course.
With the support from his adviser Martin applied for a number of jobs that allowed him to build his confidence and improve in areas such as his presentation skills. Within 6 months, Martin was offered a permanent job as a Static Security Guard for a Supermarket in Cambridge. Martin was in a fairly new relationship and this struggled due to Martin’s lack of money and motivation. This helped to bridge the gap between coming off benefits and getting on his feet.
Martin said, "The first thing I will do with my wages is to buy a Chinese takeaway for my partner and myself"
