Elizabeth, 42, joined TNG Darlington in May 2010. As a lone parent, she had previously had difficulty attending appointments with the jobcentre as her daughter had not been attending school.

At her initial meeting with TNG, she sat with her placement officer, Jon, and had the opportunity to talk through her concerns and what obligations she had looking after her daughter.

Her daughter was also present during this meeting and when she saw the impact her actions were having, she agreed to rethink her behaviour and support her mother.

Jon asked Elizabeth and her daughter to work together to create a CV for Elizabeth, using a template. She had been out of work for four years but had previous experience as a cleaner which she could focus on in her CV. Once completed, Elizabeth sent her CV to a number of local employers and was successful in gaining employment in the Darlington branch of a national retailer. Since starting work, Elizabeth is thrilled to be back in a working environment and is able to work her hours around the needs of her daughter.
