TNG has formed valuable working relationships with a number of local and national employers in the North West, providing opportunities for local people to gain work experience, update their skills and get back into work.

For the past three years, TNG has been working closely with the Ancoats branch of Curry’s in Manchester, offering work trials for individuals looking to gain experience in the work place, all of which takes place at no cost to the employer.

Since January, Curry’s has taken on one person from TNG each month, all of whom have since impressed employers so much that they have been offered permanent employment.  This is great news not only for Currys, who can be certain that the people they employ have the knowledge and skills required for the role and are trained to the company’s standard, but also for the individuals who have achieved their goal and gone into work.

One example of someone who has benefitted from this partnership is Mark, 20, from Oldham.  Mark joined TNG Oldham at the beginning of November on the Flexible New Deal programme.  He had been unemployed since leaving school and cares for his father, who suffers from arthritis.  With relatively no work experience it was suggested that Mark may benefit from a work trial to boost his confidence and give him solid experience in a work environment.

An interview was arranged for Mark at Curry’s, where he impressed the manager and was offered a four week work trial working in the warehouse and on the shop floor.  Mark was enthusiastic and took to the tasks immediately and his hard work and good attendance was rewarded when, after only two and a half weeks, he was offered a full-time paid position with the company.

Mark accepted the offer and is pleased to be in full time employment.  He is currently attending an internal sales course and is hoping to continue gaining skills and qualifications so he can progress his career at Curry’s.  He said "TNG has offered me additional support and staff always monitor my progress.  I feel really valued and appreciated for the work I have done."

Jeb Ritchie, Team Leader at Curry’s, has been impressed with the standard of candidates that have been provided by TNG to date, and continues to work with Tyron Coley, TNG Employer Relationship Manager, for assistance with recruiting new staff.
