Roy, from Stamford was an HGV driver for over 20years. Once it was recognised that he had diabetes his license was revoked and he became unemployed from September 2009.
Roy was referred to TNG on the Pathways to Work programme in January 2010. As he was diagnosed with depression his adviser put him in touch with an organisation called kynixa on the condition management programme. Through the months with TNG he found his health condition improved and as a committee member for the Cottesmore Social Club he approached his adviser with two ideas. One was for him to be employed by the club to generate income for the club, unfortunately this didn’t work out easily as planned seeing that the committee members didn’t want to spend money on someone in this position.
Since Roy’s health showed good signs of recovery the second idea which was his preferred choice, was for him to have a full body medical. Pass this to get his license back in order for him to return to HGV driving as a safety net for the self-employed idea not coming off the ground as expected. With the support from his adviser, TNG’s discretionary fund paid for Roy’s medical, he passed this obtaining his license back.
On the other hand a conscious decision was made by Roy’s adviser to refer him to InBiz because it was realized that the self–employment at the Cottesmore Social Club was a great opportunity for Roy. Following lengthy discussions with the Cottesmore committee and meeting with InBiz consultant, David Ames a few times Roy was successfully able to start self-employment as a bar manager at the committee on the 8th March. His role involves managing the bar, marketing and taking up the challenge of getting people through the door into Cottesmore Social Club which he thoroughly relishes.
"TNG listened to me and gave me so much encouragement and confidence to move forward".
