Brian, 33, has been unemployed for two years prior to joining the FND programme at TNG in Canterbury. He has done a lot on steel work and welding in the past but cannot find a job that will utilise these skills. Because of this, he has lost his confidence and focus which were the main barriers he faced in his job search.
Whilst at TNG, his Personal Job Adviser, Tracy Brown, discussed previous job roles with Brian. He was asked what he enjoyed about them and what he felt he brought to each of them. He was reminded of how good these skills are and how much positive attribute they were. This was when he realised that with a positive attitude, he could be an asset to any company.
Brian’s motivation improved leaps and bounds during his time at TNG. At first, he was despondent and felt he would not be able to find a job and that there was nothing out there for him. He realised that the staff at TNG genuinely wanted to help him. Within a week, he was more focused and excited about returning to work.
With some help with completing the application form for a large national retailer, he was invited for an interview and was offered a permanent role. He was on the programme for four weeks. He is currently receiving financial help with travel until he gets his first pay check. Brian has six children and TNG believe that giving this continued work assistance is essential in his personal circumstance. "I would recommend TNG to anyone, brilliant place with polite and helpful staff."
