Jamie, 20, had gained Key Skills qualifications in Maths, English and IT as well as a BTEC in Health and Social Care prior to joining TNG in Birkenhead. He had completed two weeks work experience as a classroom adviser in a local primary school but during a discussion with his adviser it was decided he would benefit from further work experience in order for him to gain knowledge in a working environment.

For eight weeks, Jamie worked at his local branch of Oxfam where he gained valuable experience working and dealing with customers and stock. The manager of the store was very impressed by his hard working attitude and this praise boosted Jamie’s confidence, making him more determined than ever to find a job.

Jamie worked hard to improve his CV and cover letters, with the help of TNG staff. With this experience in retail, it seemed logical that Jamie searched for work in the retail industry. However, inspired from the experience he had gained during his time at the primary school and keen to use the knowledge he gained from his qualifications, Jamie began looking into career options within the childcare industry. He often dropped his young niece off at a nursery in Moreton and during these short visits, staff at the nursery witnessed his natural manner engaging with the children. They offered him a one day work trial and he was offered a job the very next day.

Jamie is thrilled to have found a job within a profession he enjoys and is looking forward to starting an Apprenticeship in childcare which will help him on his chosen career path.
