Home Apprenticeships How does it work?
Investing in your business with Apprenticeships

How does it work?

Apprenticeship training is a mixture of the following basic elements:

  • A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
  • Key/Functional Skills (Communication and Application of Number)
  • A Technical Certificate

A timeframe for the completion of the apprenticeship will be agreed at the start (most are completed in less than 15 months) and training is completed ‘on the job’ alongside your existing staff so they develop the right skills they need to do a particular job well with minimum disruption to your organisation.

What will be expected of me?

Apprenticeships are well structured, but will require commitment from you as an employer. Most of the training for an Apprenticeship takes place on the job which you will be expected to provide. You will also be expected to ensure that your apprentice receives the help and support they need throughout the duration of their training. As with any other employee, an apprentice will be your responsibility and they will be entitled to full employment benefits the same as any other employee within your business.

Is there a cost involved?

Apprenticeships are Government funded, meaning little or no cost to your business depending on the age of your apprentice.

What support is available?

TNG offer Apprenticeship training in the following areas*:

  • Health & Social Care
  • Team Leading
  • Customer Service
  • Business Administration
  • Warehousing
  • Retail

We will work with you to decide which Apprenticeship is right for you and agree a training plan between you and the apprentice. We are committed to supporting you and the apprentice throughout the programme and will regularly monitor progress and obtain feedback from you to ensure both you and the apprentice gain the most from the Apprenticeship programme.
