WORKING WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES

FIND YOUR NEAREST CENTRE

TNG works closely with people from ethnic minority communities.  Our outreach workers make links with local community groups to assist individuals to access the wealth of training provision that is available in their area and to help them find work.

If you need help and support, including information on local training provision, housing issues, benefits information and help with filling in forms, then contact us to find out more.

Our staff can speak a number of different languages which ensures we are able to help and support clients from all different backgrounds, cultures and communities.

Our experience:

TNG was selected to run pilot Minority Ethnic Outreach (MEO) programmes that engage and support ethnic minority groups to move towards employment.  Part of our remit was to assist in closing the gap in the employment rate for people from minority ethnic communities, compared with the white population (58.2% compared with 75.7%).

Combining TNG’s extensive 20 years experience engaging ‘hard to help’ groups, with training and key-notes from our highly successful New Deal Mentoring programme we designed a programme to promote social inclusion and equality of access to local opportunities.

TNG have always had a strong community focus; developing active and productive networks at a local level.  We made particular use of our work with the Turkish and Bangladeshi communities, building partnerships with community centres, employers, mosques and religious leaders, as well as Jobcentres to enable us to support and engage these communities.  We combined this approach with a keen awareness of the barriers faced by particular communities and knowledge of local services to assist in addressing them and moving into work.

Within the first 12 months we engaged 550 clients on MEO. Through the use of our extensive network of partners in Tower Hamlets, Westminster and Haringey we achieved a positive outcome rate of 76%. All of these people are now engaging with society and moving closer to the labour market, accessing training or Jobcentre Plus services, or encouraging and supporting them to find work.
