| TNG Mentoring open day in Sunderland | |
| 25 May 2007 TNG, one of the UK’s leading training and development companies, held an open day on Friday 25th May in Sunderland to help their mentoring clients gain a better understanding of what further training and education is available to them in the local area.
Local and national organisations were present at the event to speak to mentees and give advice on their career future including representatives from Sunderland College, the North East Chamber of Commerce, the Shaw Trust (a national charity that helps find people with disabilities find employment) and youth training provider Milltech.
TNG was awarded the government funded contract through Jobcentre Plus to deliver mentoring in the North East last year. The TNG mentees have often been long term unemployed and have barriers, such as disabilities, limiting illnesses or self esteem issues, to overcome before trying to gain employment, further education or training.
TNG provide a professional service, where clients see the same highly qualified and trained mentor from start to finish meaning that they do not have to repeat themselves or their circumstances to numerous people. This leads to confidence building so that when issues arise in the future the individuals have the ability and knowledge to cope alone.
TNG has been delivering mentoring contracts for over seven years with great success. Their evaluation and research figures for last year showed that the UK could save £70m per year from the national Unemployment Benefit budget, as a result of mentoring for the unemployed.
The North East mentoring support can be accessed through referrals from the local Jobcentre Plus or by contacting TNG directly.
Michelle Harman of TNG said, “We provide advice and guidance to individuals using employed professional mentors. We develop an action plan identifying their personal barriers, outlining their goals, ambitions and the steps needed to achieve these.
“Events like these are designed to help give our mentees all the information and advice that is available in a familiar environment with their trusted mentors present.
“Our experience has shown that someone receiving mentoring has a much higher chance of entering employment and staying there. This is a highly efficient process and an excellent use of public funds. We are delighted to be able to repeat the success we have had with mentoring across the country in the North East.” | |
