TNG success in Bolton

TNG, one of the UK’s leading providers of training and development, is successfully tackling unemployment in Bolton. The office in Fold Road has helped over 60 people find permanent employment in the past 5 months.

TNG Bolton has been developing the skills of the local workforce and helping get people back into work since the office opening in July.

Kelly Smith, 23 and a lone parent, came to TNG having been unemployed for two years. Kelly had good GCSEs grades but little experience. Having left a job in a bank to give birth to her daughter she was keen to find a new career, but suffered with low self-esteem.

TNG organised a meeting for her to discuss her options, but when childcare problems forced her to cancel the appointment, staff decided to conduct the interview by phone. They were so impressed with Kelly’s telephone manner that she was offered a placement as part of TNG’s reception team.

Kelly impressed TNG on her placement and was soon offered a position as an administrator. She can now see a career ahead of her, and is about to start an NVQ qualification with TNG in business administration.

Kelly Smith said, “The support and opportunities that TNG have given me has really helped me to achieve my goal of starting a new career. It’s great to be part of the team here at Bolton, and I enjoy helping others to get the advice and training that helped me find employment.”

Alex Burrows came to TNG with no work experience, so staff encouraged him to join the Environmental Task Force, which allowed him to improve his skills and undertake occupational training. Alex was trained in landscaping and joinery at Darcy Lever Cricket Club, before going on to experience plastering, bricklaying and rendering.

Impressed with Alex’s improved confidence and motivation, TNG arranged an interview for him with City Retail Support. The vacant position was to fit out stores across the country, and meant working away from home for most of the week.

Alex had never left Bolton before and was nervous about the opportunity, but with TNG’s encouragement he attended the interview and was successful in getting the job.

He has now worked for CRS as far a field as Exeter and London, and is already being considered for a promotion to team leader.

Michelle Hargreaves, Manager at TNG Bolton, said, “One of our main roles at TNG is to help people to be receptive to learning new skills, and that can mean both offering continuous training and boosting their confidence in taking up a new trade.

“The successes at the Bolton office show that by offering people this training, knowledge and support they can overcome their professional or personal issues and find employment.”
